they lie at the back of the prostrate gland and on each side of the urethra are roughly the size of a pea, they have ducts that open in to the spongy urethra this is the gland that secrets the alkaline substance that paves the way for the arrival of the sperm and protects it from the acids within the urethra, it also secrets a mucus that lubricates the end of the penis, to decrease the number of sperm getting injured during ejaculation (health, n.d.)
Prostate gland
the prostrate gland produces about 25% of the volume of sperm and helps with sperm mobility and validity, the prostrate will slowly increase in size from birth to puberty and through out the rest of life, it is located at the back of the urinary bladder and surrounds the prostatic urethra, its function is to secret a milky fluid with a slightly acidic at approx. 6.5 and it contains citrate (ironized citric acid) sperm use this for ATP (energy)
