the epididymis is a tightly coiled duct/tube there is a larger portion know as the head, and in the head the efferent ducts from the testers join the ducts epididymis , there is a body section this is narrower than at the head, and a tail portion this is a smaller inferior portion at the distal end, at this end the epididymis will continue as ducts (vas deferens), within the epididymis free surface of columnar cells contain long branching microvilli, these are called steriocillia these increase the surface area for added reabsorption of degenerated sperm, the function of the epididymis is sperm maturation, as the sperm is stored the their mobility increases, the epididymis also through the movement of peristalsis helps to propel the sperm into Vas deferens. in some cases sperm may be stored in the epididymis for up to a month (Tortora & Grabowski, Reynolds, 1996)
Corpus Cavernasum
These are expandable erectile tissues that fill with blood during erection, the body of the penis is made up of three cylindrical masses of tissue all bound by a fibrous tissue (tunica albuginea) the corpora cavernos they are the body of the penis, it lays along the shaft of the penis, the two sections, run on each side of the penis until they join at the head, within this is the corpus spongiosum containing spongy urethra and its function is to keep open the spongy urethra during ejaculation. (Tortora & Grabowski, Reynolds, 1996)
