as with humans the female dog has two ovaries (egg receptacle) and they are suspended from he abdomen by a broad ligament called the suspensory ligament (mesovarium). they resemble a unshelled almond in their size and shape, as they have the same embryonic origin the female Ovaries are said to be homologous (similar), to the testes of the male. each ovary contains a Hillius, this the point of entry and exit for blood vessels and nerves, and where the mesovrium is attached
(Wells, n.d.).the function of the ovaries, is to produce, and store the eggs (ova)
that will be waiting to be fertilized, the ovaries also produce the female hormones Oestrogen and progesterone (Tortora& Grabowski, Reynolds, 1996).
Infundibulum
the infundibulum, is the situated at the opening to the Fallopian tubes (oviducts) it has finger like projections called fimbriae, of which one is attached to the ovary at the lateral end, it is a funnel shape depository that catches, channels and then releases the eggs into the uterine tube (Britanica, 2014), (Tortora& Grabowski, Reynolds, 1996).
